During today’s work hauling bags of sand to the roof, the team experienced the slow grind of commitment. At the end of the day we discussed the feelings we experienced during our work. We described a mutual feeling of something pushing us to continue despite urges to quit. Reflecting on the day helped me realize how deep the impact is even if it feels like we traveled all this way simply to carry sand. Carrying sand is not just about carrying sand, it’s about the impact the action we took made on us as ethical leaders and on the kids whose lives have been changed. Many of those kids whose lives have been changed may be inspired to take action to help future generations. Even if the paralysis of enormity causes us to feel like we can’t make a difference, simply taking rightly chosen action can help.
