The sweet Juices of sugar cane flushed our teeth at Momma Joy’s house two days ago. Mama Joy is a wonderful and courageous woman who let my friend Mariam and I spend a night. It was a night filled with song, laughter, and chat; our tummies filled to the brim with chapati, soup, and tea.
The scents of Mama Joys have reminded me of the 800th smells of my home, no longer did I feel afraid of the unknown but happy due to the familiarity. Mama Joy, a short but powerful woman, took care of the monstrous beast of a land that was home to corn, pumpkins, and cows. I felt a whirlwind of feelings that can be ultimately assuaged by the word blessed, Blessed to have felt comfortable, blessed to have felt someone else’s love and life.
