Since our arrival in Tijuana, we have had many experiences that showed us a new perspective. On the first night we witnessed countless recently deported immigrants who were seeking a new place in the world to feel at home after being forced to leave theirs. The next morning we traveled to “friendship park” were we listened to Tanya who is a human rights activist. Tanya lived in the United States since childhood but she was deported to Mexico after 23 years of living in the U.S. We ate lunch at the Taqueria where we learned the word “abobado” meaning marinated chicken. We visited the cultural center and learned about the history of Mexico. Over the past two days we have confronted uncomfortable and complex things that have ultimately helped us gain knowledge and perspective. In the future, we hope to use this knowledge for good.
