Today we boated to the farm of a man named Luis, who’s the son of the man who owns the hotel we’re staying at. There was a path for the boat through the mangrove trees that took us to his family’s farm. Luis showed us the different exotic fruits he grows and let us try all of them. We drank fresh coconut water and tried the fruit from his cacao plants. Luis was super knowledgeable about his plants and the ecosystem of his land Panama. After we ate lunch, the groups headed to the community centers in St. Cristobal and Bastimentos. In Bastimentos, we finally got to meet Tany, who’s the main teacher at this community center. She told us about the history of the island of Bastimentos and where it got its name. We also asked about tourism on Bastimentos and she told us about how it has affected the indigenous communities from  Bastimentos.
