This morning, after one last delicious breakfast in Urubamba, we were picked up by the Llama Pack Project crew. We took a van through curvy mountain roads and saw some incredible views along the way, including towering mountains and fluffy llamas, alpacas, and sheep. We stopped for lunch at Ancasmarka, a pre-Incan ruin site. It was super cool to see the old buildings and learn some history about the native people.

The views while walking to the site were totally magical. We continued our ride and stopped in the town of Lares for some site seeing and shopping. We drank fresh fruit juice and got to see the town. We finally continued on to Cuncani, the high-Andean community that we will be staying at for the next 3 nights. After setting up camp, we began a hike to the top of the mountain. It was challenging but beautiful. Some of us were struggling with the altitude and steep path, but the end was definitely worth it. We saw a beautiful waterfall running down the mountain, and the hike back down was much easier. We got back to our campsite just as the last of the light disappeared. Our local hosts cooked a delicious homemade quinoa and vegetable soup, just what we needed after the long hike. After some group bonding, we headed off to bed to be well rested for tomorrow’s adventures.
