Good evening from Round the Bend! We had a relaxing day on the farm today that began with fresh bread made by Gustavo, and ended with homemade pizza from our farming friends across the street. I woke up around 8:30, and was greeted by the beloved dog Mayla on the way into the kitchen. Jorge had been awake for half an hour making eggs for everyone for breakfast. Gustavo was also in the kitchen finishing a batch of fresh bread from the night before. We ate together and laughed about the night before, which had ended in a very intense game of hide and seek before bed.

After breakfast we went out to one of the farm’s other properties to pick raspberries and pull weeds. By the time we were finished, I realized that I had absent mindedly eaten more raspberries than I had picked (and they were delicious). It turned out okay because everyone else’s full buckets of fruit made up for my hunger and love for raspberries.

At 12:30 we came inside for lunch, which was potatoes, sausage, and cucumber/ tomato salad. Then Nate came into the classroom and asked if we wanted to help harvest food from the garden for tonight’s pizza party. We ended up bringing onions, garlic, and other herbs and spices to help build the pizza. We had a relaxing rest of the afternoon spending time in the kitchen making ice cream, and hanging out outside with Mayla and the other animals.

Around 4:30, we all piled into the car and took a trip down the road to the house of Eva Sommaripa, a fabulous woman and notorious gardener in New England. She gave us a tour of her gardens, and I can confidently say that I have never in my life eaten that many leaves in a single hour. We ate homemade pizza and ice cream with fresh ingredients that we got to pick ourselves, and then we ended the night with a competitive game of corn hole.
