Today was our first day of project work. We helped clear a field right outside of Tiriji, learned about permaculture, and made compost. The university students came out to help us and we had the chance to talk to them and learn more about who they are. The project work was hard, but to see the progress we made was worth it. The field work also gave us a chance to get to know other people in our group, and as the days have moved on, we have created a better group culture. The way they explained permaculture to us was interesting: it is a mix of permanent agriculture which means it is sustainable and we are helping Tiriji in the future as well. The project work took longer than expected, so we had less time with the kids at KACH, and although that was disappointing, I had to remember that I am here to help better the place as our host needs and that plans are subject to change. As we have been settling in, I have begun to be more comfortable stepping out of my comfort zone and really diving into what we are learning and the culture here. The friendships I have made so far have helped me miss home less, and I am excited to further those friendships throughout the rest of the trip. I am also excited for the rest of the trip in general!
