Costa Rica Turtles '24

Today we celebrated the anniversary of the annexation of Guanacaste from Nicaragua at the local school. The celebration consisted of listening to traditional Costa Rican music, watching the students perform traditional dances, and learning how to make corn tortillas. We then went on to play a soccer match with the students from the school. The kids were really good, and scored a lot of goals. During our visit at the school we became immersed in the culture of Guanacaste and learned more about the history of the province.
After lunch at the turtle trax station, we went to the beach. We swam, napped, and tried to play some volleyball. Then we went and listened to the Turtle Trax and CREMA leaders and founders. It was really interesting to hear about their life stories and how they all became interested in turtle conservation. They all were great examples of ethical leaders, something that we have been talking about a lot as a group. Later, we went to a market across the street and bought some snacks before heading back to the hotel for some pool time. Tonight, the other half of the group is going out on patrol to look for turtles. Hopefully they will spot some!
