We began our day bright and early at 3:30AM to start our bus-train-bus journey to Machu Picchu! We met our guide for the day, Puma, who has been to the site over 500 times and was incredibly knowledgeable. After a long drive, we arrived at the base of the mountain and caught the bus to the top where we caught some first glimpses of the World Wonder. During the drive, we got to see the sunrise over the beautiful mountain range. Puma took us through the different areas of the ruins and told us all about the history. We spent the day exploring the incredible site, then continued on to eat lunch in Aguas Calientes, and then explored the ancient Incan city of Ollantaytambo. During our free time we were able to get snacks for the incoming hikes, as well as buy gifts for the kids. After that we returned to our rooms and packed for our seven day trek through the Andes. Overall, this was an awesome and educational experience that taught us about the Sacred Valley’s history, and we are excited to start our field study tomorrow!
Lots of love,
Maya and Flannery
