Since we arrived, our questions have brought us closer to the people who work here, such as Stan and Brea. Brea, a young Lakota woman, has taught us about her language, how to pray for our food, and more about her Lakota background. Stan taught us about his history and ancestors. His mom is from the Oglala tribe, and his dad is Wichita. Through Stan we learned about fire ecology, and which trees are good for making tipis and inipis (a purification ceremony). We helped Stan unload the trees off the truck so that we could prepare the tipis and inipis for a ceremony. We have already learned so much after being at camp for a day, and we are excited to learn more and be immersed in this culture.
