As our trip goes on, we begin to learn, focus, and practice Learning Service and how we shift our comfort zones. Seeing the group practice to understand Learning Service has been so amazing. Understanding in Cristbol & Basti that we are not here to benefit or change people’s way of being, but instead, learn about people’s culture and stories.
As we learn about people’s stories & their lives, asking and finding the true problems (like how we are helping here in Education) is the most impactful way to truly help. Pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones and understanding other people gives us a different viewpoint, a view that though being here is different, it is not bad, just different, and not everywhere in the world should or can be in everyone’s comfort zones and the diversity and differences are what makes our world unique.
Stepping out of our comfort zones gives us the skills and viewpoints to help others in a way that positively impacts all parties involved, not just the people helping. It is so fun and exciting to see the kids become excited coming into the community center and learning
new things, and it truly makes being out of our comfort zones comfortable.
