The sixth day of our journey started later than the others, with our breakfast being pushed back until 8:00. With this the group was rejuvenated and ready to get after a very fun day. We drove to Playa Coyote where we would finally be able to swim in the ocean. After an hour of driving we arrived at the beach, and started on our hour-long hike. Some highlights of the hike were the beautiful nature, a breathtaking view of the ocean from the top of a cliff, and climbing over a fence. On the hike, our team medic was very useful in helping two people clean and close cuts they gained on the walk. After the hike everyone got ready to swim and ran into the water. Our caretaker for the day reminded everyone to put on sunscreen and drink water. The salty water waved on the group again and again as we stayed close to the part of the beach we began from.
Soon enough we were back to have pasta for lunch. After lunch an intense pick up game of Fútbol began. One of the turtle volunteers, Juan, from Uruguay played with us. His combination of biased refereeing while still playing for one of the teams was especially infuriating. But the game ended and the comical ‘beef’ was squashed. In all seriousness, Juan is one of the kindest and funniest people we know. After the match it was back to the hotel to clean off. Once the brief rest was over we split into two groups to talk about what was going well on the trip and what could use improvement. Some of the topics included the group cohesion, volunteer coordinators, the schedule, and food. It was constructive discussion and everyone’s voices were heard and listened to. Done with our discussion the group drove back to the station.
On the way to the station we talked about team roles that we had assigned for the day, and who would take their places for the next day. The team roles proved to be very important today and more valuable than before. After the delicious dinner we split into turtle track finders and rest day sleepers for the rest of the evening.
That’s about all from today, the only thing we have to add is that Bennett requested that she could say hello to her parents. So, “Hello Bennett’s parents”. Chau!
